Finding The Best Search Engine

With Billions of pages on the internet how do you find exactly what is that you are looking for? Chances are you have stumbled across different search engines, and maybe even used and tried out a few of them.

Aside from look and feel which search engine really is the best?
It used to be that Google’s search results were far superior to any other search engine on the internet. With an increase in technology by Google’s closest competitor’s Yahoo and Msn, it’s getting harder and harder to really sort through and say which one is really better.

With that in mind I would recommend using all of the major search engines to see which one returns what you personally are looking for. I’ve found that a search engine that I use all of the time, and returns what I am looking for will be completely different for someone else searching for the exact same thing. Everyone has expectations for what they are looking for when they perform a web search. These expectations are different for everyone, and I believe that with a slight difference in the Algorithms of the major search engines, one of them will match what it is that you are looking for.

Features:
Due to the fact that there isn’t much that hasn’t already been exploited with search engine technology, all of the major sites have been pushing new features, to attract users. Gmail, Google’s free web mail is an example of this. Gmail provides over 2gb’s of free storage, and is growing everyday. With the ability to pop email stored on the Gmail server it’s hard to beat. Yahoo and Msn have offered web based email for a long time, and it’s exciting to see Google jump in the Game. Gmail is still in a Beta stage, but already it’s made a huge push in the market; Even convinced Hotmail to raise their storage limit by more than a factor of 10! This is only a small preview I think we will see in the next while, as the different providers fight for our patronage.

Other features which all companies offer are:
Local Search - Find things relative to a local area. For example: looking for pizza in Sacramento, California?
Image Search - Rather then browsing the web to find a picture of your favorite car or digital camera, you can easily search through millions of images using the image search provided.
Movie - This is one feature which I feel really sets Yahoo apart from the others. The ability to accurately search through thousands of videos all of the internet in only seconds!
Music - This is a feature offered only by Msn. Type in an artist or song name, and be taken to a page to view artist profile’s and discography, as well as a place to purchase music online.

Take a look around and become familiar with all of the different services that Search Engines are offering now a days and make the most of your web experience, and find information as quickly as you need it!

On-page Optimization

When it comes to on-page optimization it really does not matter what the page looks like until there is somebody there to see what you have to offer. At that point it does matter what the page looks like with regard to navigation, links and content.

- Finding the page
- On-page navigation
- Links
- Content

Finding your landing page and what is on it are essentially the same thing. The words and links that are attached to this page will determine how many visits you receive. The first heading, or H1, is the crucial element for finding the page, as far as most search engines are concerned. Although there are several elements involved, the H1 heading should use wording that contains the essential elements of what your site is addressing.

Items to consider for your H1 tag
- Include your product of services’ primary focus while staying away from small words such as “and”, “if” or “it.” If you must use these small words try and put them in quotes.

When possible research the words to be used for popularity and frequency of search use. Sometimes a less popular term will get you a higher ranking than the most popular word because fewer people are using it.
Once the viewer has found your page consider how it looks. As far as a search engine is concerned all text would be fantastic. As far as a viewer is concerned it would look boring.

Items to consider for page layout and navigation
Your address is key in this area. It should be located as close to the H1 as possible. Search engines look for it.

Search engines do not recognize color so anything within the color should be marked with an ALT tag. Color is great from a viewer perspective so using “heavier” colors at the base and lighter on top will help visually move the eye to where you want it to go.

Place keywords toward the bottom of the page and outside of the color.

Incoming links are a big consideration for many search engines in ranking your page, but they must be quality and relevant links.

Content is king. Most search engines, and viewers for that matter, are looking for content that is relevant and fresh. The two things to remember are: place the content to the upper right near the advertisements, and change it up regularly to keep it new and fresh. Viewers and search engines recognize this, it is a must.

Make sure that navigation tools are easily seen and prominent. These tools are usually found at the bottom of the landing page and include: contact us, home, help and products.

As you go about setting up your page, for a solid optimization, the most critical item to remember is that your page cannot become a static item. As soon as you begin to neglect the page your ranking, regardless of the search engine that is ranking it, will steadily drop. You must keep it fresh and continuously changing.

Search Engine Wars - Quality Searches Vs Quantity!
By: Martin Lemieux

It is no secret that Google and Yahoo are on a continuous battle to win our hearts and get everyone to convert, but is converting someone really a matter of the quantity or the quality?

Let's take a look at some top key searches and compare them with some search engines online. I will outline a few things for each search result:

1) Search Engine
2) Number of results found
3) Quality & content of the top 10 sites
4) What you find going beyond the first 10 pages

Each section will get ranked out of 10 points for quality (information taken on August 26,2005).

=
Starting with my all-time favorite search term: "INTERNET MARKETING"
=

Google.com
- 99,000,000 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Past 10 pages still delivers top quality results

Yahoo.com
- 281,000,000 results
- 7/10 on quality. There's no reason to list a "Hotel Marketing Firm" & "Building websites". The #1 spot was reserved for Yahoo marketing.
- 9/10 Past 10 pages, it is very generic for business, not specific.

MSN.com
- 93,661,176 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Past 10 pages still delivers high quality results. I am surprised and give MSN two thumbs up for their attention to detail.

=
Moving onto the search term for "BUSINESS NEWS"
=

Google.com
- 627,000,000 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Beyond 10 pages delivers high quality & local news centers.

Yahoo.com
- 1,260,000,000 results (wow)
- 10/10 on quality
- 9/10 Beyond 10 pages. There are still some sites that should never be there.

MSN.com
- 381,631,054 results
- 8/10 on quality - Some aren't related at all and brand new sites as well.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. Their results seem to tighten up and get better.

Let's now take some more "local" search results to see deeper and more targeted results...

=
Moving on to the search term for "WASHINGTON UNIVERSITIES".
I hope to find the "University of Washington" come up #1 or thereabouts.
=

Google.com
- 22,700,000
- 10/10 on quality (www.washington.edu is #1)
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. The results still deliver "university" topics.

Yahoo.com
- 143,000,000 results
- 9/10 on quality - The top spot is reserved for Yahoo on Washington University in St. Louis. There seems to be a strong battle going on here on which university to list.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. Content is specific and relevant.

MSN.com
- 34,442,536 results
- 9/10 on quality - Again another battle going on and washington.edu is #10 tilting on the verge of page 2.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. All related to Washington & University living

Let's now get even more specific than that... For this search term I will be using something very local that I can relate to and give a better analysis.

=
Moving on to the search term for "HAMILTON ONTARIO CANADA".
=

Google.com
- 3,700,000 results
- 10/10 on quality - Great job
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages - Anything goes but is directly related to Hamilton.

Yahoo.com
- 14,900,000 results
- 10/10 on quality - Almost the same as Google but a couple of different choices.
- 9/10 on quality - Some results are found by keyword stuffing their pages.

MSN Local *New (http://search.msn.com/local/)
- 1,280,405 results
- 9/10 on quality - Getting some random placements & keyword stuffing
- 10/10+ beyond 10 pages - Many local companies well listed in the results.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Let's now take a look at these results as a total. Out of a possible score of 80 points, here are the total scores for each:

Google - 80 points
MSN - 76 points
Yahoo - 73 points

Total search results delivered:

Google - 752,400,000
Yahoo - 1,698,900,000
MSN - 511,015,171

And people wonder why Google is the king of searching?! But wait, without even noticing the results, as I totaled the final point standings, MSN came up in second place! In my study, I tried to be as neutral as possible.

How is it that Msn & Google have 50% the amount of results shown in Yahoo, but outrank Yahoo in quality?

In conclusion:

Even though Yahoo delivered a report stating that it has over 19 billion search items, what does it matter when you're still trying to figure out how to deliver all that content? MSN & Google seem to know exactly what to do with their results. They don't seem "off the wall" at all. If Yahoo is to step up and be crowned the search king, I really think that they need to refine the amount of search terms they have, to match the quality of search results as well.

Yahoo has major potential to outreach Google but they still have a lot of work ahead of them and by the time they figure things out, Google may even step up their game even further and wow us all on some other search plateau.

Search Engine Marketing Products Reviewed

Most books and software ever sold online have-in one form or another-something to do with Search Engine Optimization. Why is this such a sought after service? Because... getting a good spot on major search engines can be the difference between $0 in profit per day versus $500 to $150,000 in profits per day (depending on the product you are promoting). Now there are many books and programs out there... and trust me, I've tried nearly all of them. Here are my personal recommendations:

#1 - The SEO Elite Software is by far the best of the best in software out there. It is a bit pricey to start off with, but it will literally save you thousands of dollars in promotions. The advantage you have is that you can create instant back-links to your site whenever you choose to, and on more sites then you could ever dream of. To have access to tools with a 1/4 of these abilities you would pay about $239 a year somewhere else. In short... you get more than you pay for. I'd rate it 10/10

#2 - Search Engine Optimization is another great, great tool. The price is a fraction of what you would pay on the previous software, but you are also more limited as to what you can or cannot do with this system. Still a super program, but remember: You Get What You Pay For.

#3 - Links Master is a program different from the previous two in the sense that you get someone else to blast your text ads out onto hundreds of sites. Problem? You have limited control over the kind of sites and the amount of sites linking to your site. Again... a great service, but it does tend to go hard on the wallet of those starting out.

Believe it or not-there is no secret to getting your site listed #1 on major search engines. You read that right! Search Engine Marketing is always spoken of as though it is hard to do. And gaining a #1 spot on Google, well, that is just plain impossible. If done right, YOU can prove all those assumptions wrong.

Using software #1 it is easy and fast as lightning to get top ranking on major search engines and, as previously stated, it takes very little effort on your part. Go to the site, read the testimonials-and if you are serious about getting that #1 spot... I trust you will purchase the software. The SEO software is to the online marketer today as a machine gun would have been to a warrior in medieval times: It literally blows all Search Engine Marketing competitors to pieces!

Search engines can be an effective method of driving highly targeted visitors to a web site. Our search engine marketing page provides access to the collective wisdom of all the top search engine marketing experts with regularly updated articles, links to resources, and announcements of new tools and services available to the search engine marketing industry.

Do you want your site to rank #1 on Google?

Then use the #1 Search Engine Marketing tool, which is currently being used by thousands of search engine marketers around the world. Gain YOUR #1 spot on Google, Yahoo, and MSN in record time!

Economic pragmatism would be the main reason. If I have a dispute with a client having an office in the UK - not that t his ever happens, of course! - I can go to court in the UK and in the first instance get my case heard locally and in the second instance have the further option of sending the bailiffs round when the defaulter simply ignores any court judgment against them.

If the client is based abroad, then the chances of bringing them to book are remote and improbable if they exist at all. Being a one-man band, I don't deal in the sort of figures that make extradition a realistic proposition, and suggestions of invasion or all-out war evaporate when I wake up. Nor, reverting to pragmatism again, is it feasible to sue them locally and, while the local public bar would no doubt be packed with eager volunteers, it's an expensive effort sending the boys round.

So from the point of view of resorting to legal redress, sticking to UK based clients makes sense.

It can be embarrassing, though, working in the UK and trying to explain our archaic and exploitative banking system. Clients from more enlightened countries (read; anywhere else on the planet) find it hard to believe that the money they sent by bank transfer a week or so ago has yet to emerge from that mysterious bourne where money temporarily vanishes to when it enters the British banking system and appear in my account. "Certainly we paid it", they indignantly assert in response to my timid query about, er, actual payment for my services. I feel like an idiot trying to explain that despite the interim period I still haven't seen hide not hair of any remittance.

I've known my bank to indignantly deny any knowledge of any monies being in the system the very day before it appears in my account, right up till closing time. I've logged into my online account the next morning and there the money is, in some cases to my intense relief. Paypal money can be transferred between international accounts in a matter of moments, so how can the banks possibly justify not operating at the same speed? My guess would be that they can't justify it but a succession of supine governments allows them to get away with this, bad for all other business though it is.

This regularly presents me with a dilemma - has the client paid me for the work already carried out or not? Should I do more work for them effectively on their say so - and remember, this is likely to be someone I've never met or spoken to even on the telephone, that's the nature of the business, you communicate by email - or do I do work instead for a known and reliable client who lives, relatively speaking, just up the road? Obviously, I have to do work for the known client as I can't live on assurances, which in some cases can mightily displease those whose patronage I would dearly love in order to be able to expand my business. Rosy visions of future prosperity have been known to gloomily recede under these circumstances.

So there's good and there's bad aspects to practicing search engine optimisation in the UK.

Proof That Article Submissions Work

Proof that Article Submissions Work

There are endless amounts of articles on the Internet about
SEO and how to get your rankings higher.

Links to your site have always been of value but are at times very hard
to come by. Link Farms were created and dismissed by search engines of
being any value.

Great decision by the search engines. These sites are endless links that do not mean anything to us humans. I have actively been submitting and refining my Internet presence since 2000. Since SEO sometimes can take months to take hold and see any results it can be hard to see if it is working.

That is by far the hardest part of "selling" SEO to customers. We are essentially asking them to pay us month after month and in around 6 months or so you will start to see results. Sorry but that is the way it works.

You see building traffic to your site is not any one BIG thing. It is a LOT of little things done consistently over time.I have been tracking a number of these little things and they are actually adding up to BIG RESULTS.

Most people do not like to write articles and they don't believe that they can. I was one of those people. The questions run rampant:

I don't know what to write
I cannot write well
I am not an expert

The biggest obstacle to overcome is to just sit down and do it!

You are in a business so who better to write about the business than you.

Here are some Real world results. I wrote an article called:

What is an auto responder? If you do a goolge search on this:
What is an auto responder + buyleadsforless.com

You will see 162 results. Most of these results are directly from this one article.

These links are one way links NOT reciprocal links. I did not have to provide a back links to get these links to our site. They all generated themselves with One Article.

If you are struggling to write your own article then you can always pay a ghost writer to write your article. At BuyLeadsforless we can also write and submit your article.

Your links are actually included in the Bio area of the article. So you can have the links point to your replicated web site BUT we highly recommend having your own site. There is no control on a corporate web site. With your own site the keywords in your article can match the keywords on your web site. On the Internet most things score higher if they are interwoven and relevant to each other. So, keywords in the article linked to keywords on your web site mean higher rankings.

Real estate is big business. You don’t need me to tell you that. Not just online but offline as well. Many real estate agencies fail to use the internet to their advantage. Yes, having a website is great. You can have people browse real estate listings whether buying a home or renting an apartment.

Real estate, being the billion dollar industry it is, can make for difficult optimization.

An real estate agency has a substantially better chance of increasing traffic to it's website by focusing it's optimization efforts toward a specific geographical area. Doing so will help in establishing a presence for the site while eliminating the need to compete based on standard industry termed content that will not differentiate an agency in Seattle from an agency in Sarasota. A Blog is a great way to begin achieving results by sticking to this formula. The idea behind a blog is that you can create optimized content that your potential clients would find useful and bring them to your site. Simply include your geographically related keywords and phrases in the content. For example, if you have listings for apartments in NY, a good posting for a blog might be "What to Look For When Apartment Shopping in NYC". You could discuss what a renter should look for when shopping for an apartment in NYC, the necessity of renter’s insurance in NYC, overpriced areas of NYC, etc... Try to keep the content fresh and exciting to read. Remember, people may come across your article on a search engine and consequently decide to visit your site and use your services.

One thing that has made a blog a valuable tool is RSS. RSS lets us announce information as soon as it happens. How does this help a realtor? Let’s say I am hunting for an apartment. I may not have the time to check your site every few hours for updated listings. If I have a “my yahoo page”, my MSN or any RSS reader set up, I would know instantly that a listing became available.
With RSS, you won't have to worry about spam filters blocking your emails. It's beneficial for both clients and agents.

The point is to stand out from your competition. Setting up a blog and utilizing RSS are two ways that can be achieved. Also, try to set the goal of becoming the most valuable resource for information pertaining to your market and specialty.
Whether buying or renting, people need a place to turn to for information. If you can provide it, you will have plenty of traffic and clients to match.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is probably one of the most consuming, complicated areas of marketing your website, and also the one where the most inaccurate information exists.

Often advice literally years out of date is still treated as gospel with detrimental consequences.

But let's cut the crap for just a moment and show you 6 easy techniques you can apply today to start getting impressive results like the professionals do.

Bare in mind that this definately isn't *all* there is no know on the topic (it barely scratches the surface to be honest) but it *will* give you a pretty good start and put you way ahead of 99% of your competitors if you apply just these few concepts to your website.

1) Choose Your Battles

Whilst some keywords have tens of millions of competitors (and searches) every day, others have very few competitors but also very few potential visitors.

You want decent traffic but you also don't want to have to compete with the real pros out there or you're going to get slaughtered.

So it's a balancing act.

Find a keyword research tool you're happy with (there's a handy free guide on keyword research at http://www.wordtracker.com/keyword-research-guide.html) and dig into your niche.

I would suggest if you're new to SEO that you look for primary keywords with no more than 50,000 competitors and ideally over 100 searches a day.

Once you find a primary keyword you're happy with dig down further and find other secondary keywords.

So if your primary keyword you opt for is "cheap computers" then your secondary keywords may be "buy cheap computers", "building cheap computers" and so on.

All your secondary keywords should ideally contain your primary keyword plus one or more additional words that your target audience search for.

You will write at least one article focusing on each of these keyword phrases and link them altogether to create your site.

This ensures that your site is focused, linked correctly and is built around keyword phrases that your target audience are looking for and that you should be able to obtain decent listings for.

2) Choose Your Website Address

Your website address should ideally contain your primary keyword phrase. So in our example above using "cheap computers" then possible domains, if available, could be CheapComputers.com, Cheap-Computers.com, CheapComputersGuide.com and so on.

Don't worry about using hyphens but try not to make your domain too long or it will look "spammy" to the search engines and potential visitors and ensure your domain ends with .com ideally, or if not .net.

No other options should be considered.

This domain name you choose is vital because it not only gives you a boost by having your primary keyword in it, but also means that when people link to you they will be virtually forced to include your keywords in their link which, as we'll see, is another important factor in your ranking.

3) Keep Your Keyword Density Up

Of less importance these days than it once was is the keyword density of the articles on your site. I wouldn't fret about looking for exact figures as some poorly informed marketers do, just try to include your keywords from time to time.

So an article about buying cheap computers would include the phrase "buying cheap computers" several times. Also consider, if it reads correctly, splitting up your phrases into their individual words and using these in your articles too. So in our example use the words "buying", "cheap" and "computers" a few times in your article, not necessarily next to each other.

4) Structure Your Pages Correctly

For each of your keyword-focused articles ensure the relevant keywords for that article are present in the page title and your meta tags.

5) Watch Your Internal Linking

Try to avoid links in your site navigation that say generic things like "click here" and "articles" and so on.

Keep them specific and unique and include your keywords. So you wrote an article about "buying cheap computers"? Then the link to it could read something like "Read our guide to buying cheap computers".

It helps keep your site unique, focuses the search engines on what your article is about and notice how you've managed to include your primary keyword phrase "cheap computers"?

A number of links like these down the side of your page will greatly increase the keyword density of your pages.

Oh, and please use text links, not image links.

6) Generate Keyword Dense Incoming Links

Once you're all set up with the above tactics simply aim to generate a number of links from related, popular sites through the use of article submissions, press releases, link exchanges and so on.

Ensure they include your primary keyword phrase but don't overdo it.

Just mention your primary keyword once in each of the links pointing to your site.

These links will drive traffic to your site, increase your rankings and allow the search engines to find you so you don't need to submit your site to them.

And that's all you need to know to begin with. Best of luck!

Link Building Strategies For 2006

Link building is very pain staking process because it consumes lot of time and also see the results only gradually. During the past few years webmaster exchanged mails to other webmaster to gain inbound links to their website which is

commonly called "Link Exchange" during the year 2005 many link farms, link directories and building and selling link website and companies popped up just to carter this sector. Since search engines still value these links like MSN

which gives importance to anchor text links pointing to any website in their algorithm. But after some of the major update of Google in 2005 and especially the Jagger update which was done in 3 phrases over a period of 40 days made

webmasters and SEO experts to give a second through about reciprocal linking.

Reciprocal linking was a method to artificially increase the link popularity of the website and gain search engine ranking. However after Google Jagger 3 update webmaster and website promotion experts learned that their website was

dropped to a few hundreds of pages in the search engine results. What happened was Google discounted or gave no value to those kinds of links build artificially by webmaster to gain link popularity. Besides website which has high quality

inbound links replaced those ranking which was previously enjoyed by other websites. Inbound links doesn't mean just links pointing to the website; it should be from authority website and should be seen as natural by search engine

spiders. Any kind of artificial method to gain inbound links will be identified by these spider bots and there will be a drop in those particular website ranking.

The important tips and techniques to be used in future link building for 2006 are as follows.

1) Reciprocal link - Before I go further I would like to tell you that reciprocal linking is not dead. For example if you run a website on pets supplies and linking to a dog grooming website it is definitely take in to consideration by search

engine, since it adds value and information for the visitor to these websites.

2) Directories links - A link from Dmoz and yahoo directory is still considered as gold by Google and eventually your website will be included in Google directory is you are listed in Dmoz. Directory submission is not bad idea but if you run

a website related to real estate and submitting to non related directory it is not given value and will be discounted. The quality of the link matters rather than number of links. So try to get links from your Niche areas and directories.

3) Be a Content provider:- This is pretty tough but worth the effort that means give people a reason to link to your website. The reasons could be if you provide information to relate to our niche area on your site. I mean unique content and

where webmaster can't find these kinds of information and it will be useful to reader in your niche area. Create an article section in your own website, so definitely you will get requests from other webmasters to link to your site.

4) Think out of the box to get links: - Send testimonials for products and services which you have used and ask a link pointing to your website. Conduct interviews with professionals in your niche area.

5) Press release:- Submitting a press release related to new services, features or products which you are launching will have drastic effect to gain links and popularity to your website. Submitting press release is fast catching up with

webmasters. There are many publishers and subscribers looking for latest news and content. So by submitting a press release you gain a wide publicity.

6) Submitting articles.- This is a form of viral marketing or like a virus because you articles submitted to article banks and ezine publishers will be picked by hungry webmaster and publisher looking for free reprint content. Imagine this

article which i have written might be picked up in newsletters and online publishers which in turn gain me a free inbound link.

So the bottom line is try to gain maximum inbound links from authority sites and your niche related website. This will definitely make your link building for the year 2006 a better experience and see your website visibility and popularity gain

new heights.

SEM Gorilla – Search Engine Marketing Book

Randy Zlobec’s new search engine marketing book, SEM Gorilla, is about to be released and folks are already lining up to be notified. This isn’t surprising. The pre-sales information and the credibility of the author suggest that finally, a search engine optimization book (and much more) has been written that can take us all the way from initial website creation through to implementing search engine marketing strategies and making desired sales.

Most books on search engine marketing focus on either search engine optimization or pay-per-click strategies. They don’t get into website creation at all. SEM Gorilla is more than a search engine optimization book. It discusses the basics of designing and creating a search engine friendly website from scratch and then putting effective strategies in place that will attract search engine traffic.

SEM Gorilla explains the principles of search engine marketing simply and comprehensively so that anyone can understand them. It is a practical step-by-step search engine marketing guide that is easy to follow. This search engine optimization book is not another of those complex theoretical tomes nor is it a source of irrelevant or erroneous advice designed to simply make its author rich.

Randy Zlobec has discovered the search engine marketing formula for success. He says, “I don’t believe in vague theories or anything like that. I believe in starting from the beginning and walking the reader right through the entire SEM process from beginning to end using only white hat marketing so that the site is set up correctly.”

SEM Gorilla is the culmination of over eleven years of experience creating and marketing websites to maximize success. From small family businesses to large corporations, Randy has created new websites or transformed struggling ones into profitable ventures.
