Search Engine Optimization Is Not A Short Term Project
As I work with more and more clients who are interested in learning how to earn money online I notice the majority are not pleased at the time frame which good results for competitive keywords usually take. It is important to note that there are literally millions of web sites, blogs, and other presences being created each and every month. Google and other major search engines need a way to tell which presences are going to be sticking around for the long haul. I have found that one of the biggest determining factors when trying to rank a website well is the age of the domain and incoming links. Ranking for a term which has 50k people searching for it monthly will usually take around 1 year before you are able to reach the first page and only if you work a lot during that year. Even if your website is old if you have not done the same amount of marketing as the other web presences have done within your niche you will not see a good organic rise.
The first step in any internet marketing campaign is setting up a time frame where goals can be realistically achieved. Really it is better to let your keywords come naturally, but almost all webmasters want control and will build links for a certain term. If you decide to build links for your website then make sure you are switching the keywords within the anchor text so Google and the other search engines will think the links are coming naturally. If you really want one keyword which gets a lot of traffic this will be key. I have spoken with many webmasters and bloggers that went after one big term and that was the only term they put in their website and built links for. They were caught by Google and dropped from the SERPs for that term, but not for any other term. Now when I say you will need to set realistic goals what I mean is 1 year or more away. This shocks most, but really is the trust year for Google where they see if you are really going to stick around and be a player within your niche.
During this first year of your websites or blogs birth be sure to keep the website updated the same as you would if your presence was getting thousands of visitors daily. You would not want to see your blogs readership drop or your website conversion rate simply because you did not want to update. Well even though you don’t get a thousand people coming to your website a day you will not unless you keep your presence updated. Keep writing articles and submitting them to major article directories being sure to link back to your website. You may not see any organic results, but you will if you last the first year. One important thing to remember when you begin SEO and that is during the first year you are catching up to all the older websites who do not really need to market or update as much. They worked very hard to achieve their rankings and you will to.
