Almost everyone knows that when a person wants to know something on the Internet they turn to search engines like MSN, and Google to find what they are looking for. This makes it very important for web site owners to know how to get their web sites ranked well on search engines, so that the people doing the searching can find their web site.

The first thing you should know is that the job of a search engine is to bring up the web page, that is most relevant to the search.

Search Engine Optimization isn't rocket science!

The job of the web site owner is to make their web site more relevant than other sites. The other job they need to do is make sure the web site gets submitted to search engines. Do those two things and you are getting some attention well needed from the search engines, the reward is free targeted traffic.

I wrote an my first article titled "The plug-in Profit Home Business Review." Now I didn't know too much about writing articles at the time so this happened to be dumb luck. After a few weeks I did a search to find that my article got placed on the first pages of MSN, GOOGLE and Yahoo, when I searched for "plug-in profit site"( E-Commerce business). Surprised to see that the article was ranked higher than hundreds of thousands of possible sites, I looked into the reason for my article's great success.

When you read the article you'll see that the article is extremely related to the plug-in profit home business site. The title after all was called "The Plug-in Profit Home Business Review." The content is all about the program and mentions the name of the program several times. To sum things up this is what made my article step in front of my competitors.

I soon applied my new found knowledge into my own web site. I built my web site around the keyword, "plug-in Profit site. I made the title of my home page "plug-in profit home business site" Now days you will see somewhere on the first pages of the search engines internet5kincome.com when a search for "plug-in profit" is done. You may even find my first article hanging around. This proves that content is still king when it comes to search engines! I will also add the title helps out a great deal too!

In my efforts I made a mistake on my web page, I created a link titled :"Can taking on-line serveys really make you money? Click here to find out".

Notice the misspelled word serveys. While the rest of the world spells surveys with a "U". I spelled this one word with an "E".

I am embarrassed to say it, but that mistake placed my site on page 1 when a person searched for "on-line serveys" this winning mistake brought a surprising number of free traffic.

I am amazed at how many people spell surveys with an "E"! (The mistake has been corrected, but it is something you should know!)

When experimenting with search engine optimization, or SEO for short. Track your web site's performance with a tracking service. I use opentracker.net for my web site's tracking. This service will show you where all your visitors come from.

If a visitor was referred by a search engine, obviously the visitor did a search. The tracker will tell you what keyword the visitor searched for. That keyword is something you should know, so that you can build on it, to bring in even more traffic. You may be surprised at what you find out from the web site tracker. I was surprised that so many people spelled surveys wrong, but I would have never found out if it wasn't for the web site tracker.

Experimenting with SEO is well worth the time. Set your sites on what people are searching for, and build your web site around those keywords, and you might find your web site on the first page.

Understand that not all search engines will rank your web site the same, try different search engines to see where your site shows up. MSN.com is one of my favorite engines to use because this site indexes web pages more often than others. This will help you to see if your experiments work a little faster that using the other top named search engines.

I hope to see your web site on the first page of the search engines real soon.

It is excellent on what little optimization can do for my blog Melayu Boleh. At first I was a bit cynical on the advantage, but I was actually shock by the consequence.Just in case you are wondering why this blog was created in the primary place, it was a scheme of my friend.

One day, while both of us were surfing the Internet, he challenge me. Previously he has know about my creation change blog that rank quite well in the SERP. Therefore he challenges me to make a blog that tried to rank well within my selected niche.

At first I though he must be out of his mind. However, I do love the challenge and started to create my blog based on that niche. I keep posted my blog daily and tried to made sure that my post was at smallest amount 500 word long. Let me share with you some of the basic search engine optimization that I integrated in my blog.

Keyword in the post title

I can not put emphasis on the importance of including your niche keyword in the title of your post. This will actually tell the search engines what your post is about. For illustration, let’s take my blog. Since it is about the achievement of anak Melayu Boleh, I will try to include this key phrase in the heading of my post. That way the search engines will know what my blog is in relation to. Can you imagine if I were to write a title like “Blue Marble Success”? Do you think that the search engine will rank me well for the term Melayu Boleh? Of course not. I know some of you might dispute that it is still promising to rank for that phrase, but my question to you is why damage yourself by creating a irrelevant and unfriendly SEO title?

Backlinks

I can be capable of honestly tell you right now by experience, that receiving backlinks is one of the a large amount challenging of all. It is a lengthy and very wearing course of action. One of the preeminent ways of creating value backlinks is to submit articles to online article directories such as Hubpages or Squidoo. If you would like to go a step further, you can even submit your article to places such as Helium, articleBase just to name a few. There are just too numerous out there. Not considering of the chief motivation why you would want to submit to these directories is for the backlinks.

Variation of you keyword as your anchor text

I have seen a lot of people that create anchor text on their main keyword for example 3gp Melayu Boleh. If possible try to create long tail keywords.

Shortcut to realistic info about the topic of internet marketing - read the webpage. The time has come when concise information is really only one click away, use this opportunity.

Exploring Search Engine Optimization

The process that is aimed at improving a website’s ranking among search results on leading search engines is often referred to as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This may be targeted at vertical search that is specific to an industry, local search or image search, among others.

The efforts aimed at SEO include ensuring that the search engines can index the content of the site easily and that the content that is uploaded is unique and highly relevant. The search engine robots should be able to access the site fully and any problems that are likely to prevent these from doing so should be removed. The site’s structure and coding might have to be looked at, for this purpose. Improving the presentation of the site could also make it more appealing for the users. Other methods, which are not approved of by search engines, are called spamdexing and include techniques such as reciprocal linking and stuffing the site with keywords that are likely to attract the desired type of visitors.

Since the source code of the website often has to be modified suitably for SEO, techniques for optimization can form a part of the design and development of a website. Therefore, companies offering such services offer SEO services as well, nowadays. Those shopping carts, site designs, systems for the management of content and menus that are fairly simple from the point of view of optimization, may be described as friendly towards SEO.

Ensuring that sites get listed on search engines:

Although it is not possible to guarantee the ranks that the owners of a site may wish to specify, certain search engines operate programs that ensure that the site will be indexed in return for a certain amount of money. Otherwise, the sites have to be submitted manually for crawling. Whether or not a page is to be indexed may depend upon a variety of factors, including how far away a page is located from the root directory. However, some sites allow the submission of XML feeds that aid the discovery of those pages that cannot be accessed by following links automatically.

The programs that guarantee inclusion in lieu of payment have attracted a considerable amount of criticism, of late.

Preventing specific content from getting listed:

A text file in the domain’s root directory can be utilized for preventing specific directories or files from being crawled by the search engines’ spiders, by the site’s webmaster. Meta tags can also be used for this purpose.

Pages that are specific to logging in and that have content that is specific to users are generally the ones that are not to be crawled by the search engines.

Legitimate versus illegitimate techniques:

As mentioned earlier, the SEO techniques whose effects the search engines try to minimize are known as spamdexing. On the other hand, those techniques that are recommended by search engines are considered significant towards ensuring excellent rankings for the website in the long run. As and when the sites that employ spamdexing are found to be doing so by the search engines, these are excluded from the databases and banned.

The legitimate techniques, or those that are in accordance with the guidelines followed by search engines, are free from deception. This implies that the content that a user accesses on the website is the same as that indexed by the search engine.

Therefore, to summarize, these techniques seek not to create content aimed at search engines, but to create content aimed at providing maximum utility to those who visit the website and then making this content easily accessible to them, through SEO.

The illegitimate techniques include designing different pages for search engines and for human visitors, besides including text that is visible to the search engines and not to the human visitors, among other methods.

Marketing through search engine optimization:

SEO may not be the best tool for achieving the marketing goals for a website and may have to be combined with other tools, techniques and strategies, in order to attain success. However, something it can definitely do is to help increase the number of visitors i.e. bring about an increase in traffic and, if properly done, traffic of good quality, as well. Since people are known to scan web pages, including those containing search results, downwards from the top and from the left towards the right, it is obvious that placement among the highest ranked search results can dramatically increase the number of people that are likely to visit the website.

Finding A Search Engine Optimization Company

When it comes to business some people like to get their hands dirty and iron out every little detail of every little deal and transaction. Others like to handle the parts of the business that they know and are comfortable with, leaving the bits and pieces they are unsure about to people who know what they are doing.

Before you start looking for a search engine optimization company sit down and consider your situation. What goals do you have for your website? What are your priorities? How much can you afford to spend, remember that you pay for quality, the lowest price isn't always the best deal.

When it is time to submit your web-based business to a search engine their are search engine optimization companies who, for a fee, will be happy to optimize the websites for the business owners who do not feel comfortable doing it themselves.

Search engine optimization is the art and science of making a website attractive to search engines. If you don't know where to find a reputable search engine optimization company try looking in search engine optimization forums, references or articles on reputable websites, ask friends for recommendations, ask other webmasters if they used anyone to optimize their sites and if they did ask which company they used and if the experience was pleasant.

The first thing you have to watch out for when you're selecting a company to handle your search engine optimization is scams. The first thing to do is avoid any search engine optimization companies that are listed in the black hat directory. Black hat search engine optimization is not really optimizing but really just spamdexing, most search engines penalize websites that are caught spamdexing. Also avoid any company who guarantees a ranking before they even look at your site. Make sure the company you are considering is actually going to do something besides add doorway pages and meta tags.

What is spamdexing?

Spamdexing is using methods that manipulate the relevancy or prominence of resources indexed by a search engine, usually in a manner that is inconsistent with the purpose of the indexing system. A lot of times spamdexing is done by stuffing a website full of keywords, web crawlers (the programs search engines use to rank websites) read the web sites they read lots of the same keyword and assume that the sight is content rich. Based on the web crawler's findings the website is given a high rank. Allot of the time the keywords are stuck at the bottom of the document where the internet user can't see them. Keyword stuffing is considered content spam.

The other common type of spamdexing is link spam. Link spam is spamdexing that takes advantage of link ranking algorithms causing search engines to give the guilty website a higher ranking. Link farms, hidden links, Sybil attack, wiki spam, spam blogs (also referred to as splogs), page hijacking, buying expired domains, and referrer log spamming are forms of link spam.

Flash Tricks For Improved Search Engine Rankings

Normal wisdom says that if you use Flash in a web site it will hurt your search engine placement. This is due primarily to search engines having a hard time to index Flash content. But with a little ingenuity we can use that very problem to our advantage.

Let’s first take a look at how search engine indexing can cause you problems on your web site.

Most web sites are built up of menus and context areas. The menus are frequently text based, making them easy to update or change. The content is dependent on our writing creativity. Both of these can lead to search engine indexing trouble.

Search Engines look through the text on your pages, menus as well as content and they create their index on what they find. So far so good. But just how do the search engines do this? They can’t look at your page and decide which is the main content area visually, so they simply start at the top of the code and work down.

If your site follows the standard pattern of a navigation bar on either the top or down the left side of the page and uses a table structure to achieve this, then your whole nav bar will be read and indexed before your main content area. If your site has a lot of variation then this shouldn’t be a problem. But what if your site is focused on one subject and your navigation bar tends to repeat words? As an example you may have a site that sells watches and your nav bar may read like this: Men’s Watches, Ladies Watches, Sport Watches, etc. You can see how easy it is to repeat that word Watches.

Search engines like to give points to sites that contain valuable content that is easily categorized and recognizable to visitors, but they also take away points for keyword spamming. In the above Watch example, the nav bar could easily cause your page to be listed as a keyword spammer.

Here is the first Flash Trick to improve your ranking. Create the navigation bar in Flash. This way all those repeating words are now hidden from the search engine spiders. As an added benefit the code taken up by the Flash will probably be less than the code used in the text based nav bar. This will help the search engine spiders to focus on the main content area of your page.

Let’s now look at another common problem with search engine indexing. In this example consider a shopping site selling the same watches as in our previous example. Each watch page will have a description of the individual watch, and that is fine. But each page may also have “boiler plate” text as well. There may possibly be a standard description for a particular watch brand, or possibly warranty or shipping information included on the page.

Another red flag that goes up for the search engine spiders is text repeating from page to page. The more distinct each page is the more likely the search engines will consider the text as relevant. If there is too much repeated text, the search engines may even drop all the pages that they believe have duplicated text. Not a good situation, especially if you don’t want to be forced into creating completely original text for every page on your site.

Here is Flash Trick number two. Keep all the distinct content on your pages as html text and convert any repeating text areas into Flash files that are placed into the pages. This way, only the distinct text is visible to the search engines and your repeating text is hidden in the Flash file. Any text that you tend to repeat from page to page is a prime candidate for the Flash treatment.

So take a look through your web site. Do you have text menus that use repetitive words? Do you use boiler plate text, or have repeated text areas on several pages? If so you should let Flash’s disadvantage of being search engine unfriendly become your advantage on making a search engine friendly site.

Future Relevancy Or Page Rank

With all the talk about search engines and relevancy, I came up with some interesting thoughts that I wanted share about where I believe the search engines are heading concerning basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Trying to stay ahead of the search engines, which is nearly impossible, I’ve been trying to look to the future of SEO while creating web pages following the guidelines of the major search engines.

One of the largest problems the major search engines are dealing with is Search Engine Spam, Adsense Spam, and “Spammy Pages” such as keyword stuffing to gain higher rankings. In guidelines from Google, they mention write your pages for the users, not for the search engines. This statement alone, is a little prediction of the future of what is coming. And in order to stay ahead of the curve with some long term planning, I am suggesting we should take this to heart, and stop using the older SEO methods that eventually will hurt us.

Websites are being currently being penalized and dropped from years of top rankings for not adapting to the search engines guidelines and continuing to use SEO methods of years ago.

In thinking in terms of long-term success to maintain high rankings for each of the major search engines, through about as much research as you do online, I have came up with a few guidelines to the basic SEO ideas for the future.

One of the most important aspect for the search engines, and what I have seen and predict will have more importance is website copywriting. We’ll this is nothing new, we all know website copywriting is important, may as high at 45% of our copywriting contributes to our page rank. This will always remain important, and I believe will become even more important to high as 85% of what our website says will contribute to our page ranking in the future, as a shift from the search engine giving higher ranking from a technical aspect to more of a informational or relevancy aspect.

Eliminating some of the currently used technical aspects may maintain higher ranking in the coming future. Let me explain some of the commonly abused technical SEO habits currently, that I believe is headed toward extinction.

a. Keyword Meta tags. This tag alone is open to elimination due to the common abuse methods such as keyword stuffing. Most major search engines generally ignore this tagline currently.

b. ALT tags are another tagline that is just in the beginning stages of being eliminated. Some search engines have been experimenting with ignoring ALT tags and have found out that pages indexed without ALT tags are returning higher relevancy results. Again like the Meta tags, ALT tags have been abused to such from as keyword stuff.

c. The two Meta tags that will gain in importance will be the Title tag and Description tag. A title and description taglines accurately representing a well written website copy write will enhance your page’s relevancy.

I am not suggesting that today that we immediately stop using the successful technical SEO currently in place, but the gradual elimination of this technique as the search engines stop using each method. Personally, I no longer include the Keyword Meta taglines on my web pages, and will continue to remove useless html as that become irrelevant.

In summary, my opinion is that future SEO standards will be more focused on good copywriting and less on technical aspects such as Meta taglines, Alt taglines, Headings to gain a higher page rank, or should I say higher relevancy.

"Search engine submission" refers to the work of getting your web site listed with search engines. Earlier in the history of the web the submission process could be automated. Nowadays, however, most search engines have implemented steps to prevent this. Today this activity is generally done by experts in Search engine submission services. Getting listed on search engines does not mean that the sites will necessarily rank well for particular terms. However, it simply means that the search engine knows your pages exist.

When it comes to owning a website, traffic is the most important concern. More traffic means more customers. Search engine submission and website promotion is a vital aspect of gaining traffic to your site. There are millions of websites on the Internet and it can be difficult to compete with them for a ranking in search engine. Search engine submission services strive to provide customers with a high search engine ranking though it is not always possible in high competition markets. Remember, Search engine submission services do not guarantee high placement.

There are two basic reasons to submit a web site or web page to a search engine. The first reason would be to add an entirely new web site because the site operators don’t want to wait for a search engine to discover them. The second reason is to have a web page or web site updated in the respective search engine. There are two basic methods still in use today by Search engine submission services to submit your site to a search engine. They can either submit just one web page at a time. Or, they can submit the entire site at one time with a site map. However, many times, most search engines are able to crawl a site with just the home page, provided that it is well designed.

Web sites desire to be listed in popular search engines because that is how most sites are often seen by visitors who eventually convert into customers. Sites that appear on the first page of a search are said to be in the top 10.

Nevertheless, many Search engine submission services still exist that offer to automatically place any web site with several hundred search engines for a fee. These business services are generally considered to be scam operations because they do not work. There are little more than a dozen or two search engines to begin with. And, there are really only 3 major search engines. It should take only about 15 minutes to submit a site to all three of these search engines. Therefore you should be extremely careful while enlisting Search engine submission services.

Getting Indexed, A Little Patience?

Newbie's and Expert Internet Marketers all have one thing in common: Trying to get their websites indexed through the top three major search engines quickly. For larger websites the task is even more daunting, and there are a few small but effective techniques that can assist in the indexing process. Patience is a virtue and in today's internet marketing world patience and planning is a key.

Smaller one or two page websites, also known as sales pages, are the easiest and quickest to get indexed in the three major search engines almost anyone can generally succeed by just manually submitting through each search engines submission process. Websites with a considerable number of pages will often only immediately get their first page indexed which therefore requires small effective planning strategies and a little bit of patience to become completely indexed.

Effective Key Planning Strategies:

(1) Prior to submitting your websites to the search engines or establishing link partners which will cause the search engines to start indexing in your website. Start planning out the basic website structure so that search engines robots can easily flow through your website and index each page.

(a) Have an sitemap linked from you main index page that thinks through out your website.

(b) If possible, ensure that each page is linked together, not just back to the main index page. This is not possible depending on what type of website you have, the number of pages, or your website design and structure. But this has been a successful technique in the past.

(c) Build and submit a Google Sitemap.

(2) Test your websites design and structure using Google Sitemap Software such as SOFTplus GSiteCrawler (Freeware) that will try and index your entire website. If your unsuccessful building a index of your entire website, then further planning and design changes maybe in order to index your entire website. If the software can not index your entire website, how will the search engine robots index your entire website?

(3) Instead of manually submitting your websites, submit your website through directories and establish link partnerships. This will improve how often your website is crawled by the search engines and how fast your website is indexed. Also, when establishing link partnership and directories higher the Google Page Rank, the quicker your website will be indexed and how often your website is crawled.

(4) Lastly, Patience. The process the search engine will go through while indexing your website is: First, the search engine will have to find your website (Hence, establishing partnerships with high Google Page Rank), then crawling through your website and absorbing all the information contained, then ranking each individual page and finally your website will appear in the search engine result pages (SERPs).

Getting Your Website Right

The temptation to rush through the creation of your website can force you to compromise on a great many fundamentally important aspects of solid website operation - compromises that you will ultimately need to go back and correct. The trick is to get it right the first time, leaving changing your website for those infrequent times when you change your corporate look or shift your company's message.
There are a number of things you need to consider when constructing your website so as to avoid the costly revisions later on. It should also be noted that many times, despite the good intentions, the revisions you are intending to make never seem to get made, as you become to busy to tend to them. The result then, is that you are stuck with a deficient website.
So what are those elements you need to keep in mind? Tudog has a few questions you should be asking yourself. They are:
1. What is the purpose of this website?
There are a number of legitimate functions a website can serve. For example a website can be set up as a means of disseminating information. It can also be an online example of your company's skills and expertise. Whatever the purpose, you must have it clearly and well defined before you start considering other aspects of website development.
2. What should be my user paths?
The navigation you incorporate into the website with significantly influence the experience your visitors will have, how long they will stay, and how successful they will be in extracting from the website what they wanted (and what you wanted them to get out of it). User paths need to be logical, clear, easy to follow, and categorized in language that is common and typical. You do not want to create links that people cannot understand or send them through a maze to get to where they want to go.
3. How do I want the site to look?
The appearance of your website will greatly influence the extent to which you are able to extract from the website the full potential of your effort. The development of the look of your site begins with the corporate identity of your company. The website should be consistent with this look. In addition, you should consider what "feel" you want the website to have. For example, a financial services website might want a "safe and established" feel, while a technology company might want to demonstrate its technical savvy or communicate its high technology image.
4. How will the site be used?
While you considered your objectives, you also need to consider the objectives of the people who will be visiting the site. There is a need to anticipate the purpose people will have in exploring your site and make sure that you deliver the experience as you understand they would want it. While some of this has to do with the aspects we discuss above, such as site appearance and navigation, it also has to do with the core message of the website and the content you provide.
5. How should the content be presented?
Beyond what content you should provide is the question of how it should be organized. While some of this is taken care of when considering the navigation, much of it has to do with the way pages are laid out and the interaction of text with graphics. Once again, this question is at the core of the visitor's experience, the success of which will determine in the long run the success of your business.
6. What communication channels have you created?
You need to make sure that you are allowing your visitors the opportunity to interact with by providing the ability to email you or call you. Tudog recommends providing as much contact information as possible because we believe that websites with little contact information lack credibility, as if they do not want inquiries. You need to put your company out there for evaluation and you need to do so in such a way that you express confidence that you will pass any evaluation with flying colors.
The creation of a high quality, well conceived website will afford your company the ability to establish and maintain credibility while also serving as an interactive tool for people interested in learning more about your company. What they learn - and what they perceive - has a lot to do with how good your site is. When building your site, ask yourself these 6 questions, and you'll be able to answer the question "how good a site do I have" with the answer "quite good indeed".
